My name is Trevor, and addiction took over my life at a young age. I started smoking cigarettes and marijuana in middle school, and soon it became everything to me. By high school, I was using alcohol, pills, and psychedelics, anything I could get. I was constantly in trouble, getting suspended for fighting and bringing drugs to school, yet I believed I could quit anytime.
In my early 20s, everything spiraled. Any control I thought I had was gone. I received an $80,000 inheritance and spent it in a month and a half. By then, I was addicted to meth and heroin, drifting in and out of my daughter’s life, lying to my family, and stealing to support my habit. I felt hopeless, trapped in addiction, cycling through programs and jail, losing everything over and over. I believed the world would be better off without me, but deep down I was desperate for change.
When I finally came to Life Recovery Ministries in 2024, I committed to staying despite the withdrawals that had driven me away before. I did not want to be there, but I had seen how it changed other people's lives, and I wanted that transformation. Life Recovery Ministries taught me discipline, honesty, and integrity. It showed me how to face hard things, appreciate small victories, and rebuild my self-worth. I found support in men I could trust who pushed me to do the right thing.
During the program, I reconciled with my daughter after nearly four years apart. Now I spend every weekend with her and am learning to be a father she can rely on. Life Recovery Ministries has changed my perspective on life. I have learned to accept my past, forgive myself and others, and move forward with peace and purpose. I have also found faith, building a relationship with Jesus and realizing I am never alone.
Today, I have been clean and sober since 2024. I believe my life has a greater purpose, to be a present father, to walk my daughter down the aisle someday, and to help others struggling with addiction. By staying on the right path and continuing what I have learned, I know my future is brighter than I ever imagined.
